Our injured and severely threatened planet is in desperate need for help. As we sit in our comfortable, centrally heated homes and watch nature programs on television, the worldıs most precious habitats are disappearing like ice in the sun.
Most worthwhile charities are grossly under-funded and governments are realising all to slowly, that a lot more effort on all fronts needs to be put in the conservation of this planet. The problems are understandable but are no longer acceptable.
The only solution is people from all nations leading the way to save the destruction of this planet from ourselves.
With this simple web page, we hope to inspire you into action and thereby encourage others to get involved also. On this page, we will try to give you some insight into the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project located on Phuket Island, Thailand where Sander has worked.

Hello from Sander,
Two days ago, I arrived at the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project in Thailand. First I was shown around. And yesterday, I went to Pukhet City to cash in my money, to buy food for the gibbons, and to eat and buy some stuff. But today was my first working day...

Hello from Sander,
I just sometimes miss home and Amsterdam, although I am having a pretty good time. Thanks for your words about leading the project in Vietnam and believing in myself. It sort of comes at the right time, because I really feel that way a bit. I mean that I have to lead...

A big day for the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, as it was fifteen months and eight days ago that the last gibbon, Mr. Lisa, was released on this same island. Prior to this release were many years of hard work, plans, frustrations and patience to go through, but the fact that this day ultimately came made it all worthwhile.
On the morning of March 13, 2001...

We are requesting help from the Nature Film and Network Media to record this impending and unique gibbon release and help us to illustrate the need to protect the gibbons and their forests in Thailand and South-east Asia
A call from the wild will be heard again when three gibbons will get a new chance after a life in captivity!
A call of the wild will be heard again when three gibbons will get a new chance after a life in captivity! In the initial phase of reintroduction, The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project in Phuket, Thailand, will be reintroducing three white-handed gibbons (Hylobates lar) after years of care and hard work. They will be translocated onto a semi-wild, uninhabited island in a National Park reserve in Phang Nga Bay, a short distance off the east coast of Phuket. The Gibbon release will occur during the months of February /March 2001. The Thai and volunteer staff have completed an important phase of the rehabilitation with the construction of an effective off-shore feeding system which will minimize the contact between gibbons and people. In the first years the gibbons will still be partly dependent on extra feeding while they become familiar with their new environment and learn how to find food in the wild. After a couple of years, we will hopefully be able to progress to the final phase of the reintroduction program when the gibbons will be released into one of Thailand's National Forests.
We are making this request for help to the Nature Film and Network Media to record this impending and unique gibbon release and help us to illustrate the need to protect the gibbon and its forests in Thailand and South East Asia.
Some background information:
The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project, Bang Pae Waterfall, Phuket Island, Thailand
The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project was founded in 1992 by American Zoologist Terrence Dillon Morin. Terrence Dillon Morin (TD) was then living on Phuket Island and had become increasingly concerned about the plight of gibbons in general and the exploitation of gibbons kept in tourist bars in particular. From an initial two gibbons rescued by TD, the center has grown into a full scale reintroduction and research project whose aim is to release bonded pairs of lar gibbons (Hylobates lar) onto to a managed island reserve in Phang Nga Bay, a short distance off the eastern coast of Phuket. Aside from this pioneering work, the project also highlights the plight of gibbons to the visitors of the center and helps them understand and the importance of this remarkable primate to Thailand's rich environment. The project fights for the protection of the gibbon, one of our closest living relatives. We are working to help ensure the survival of gibbons and their habitat. The Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is funded mostly by our volunteers and is in need of assistance in publicizing and recording this pending release.
Please help us spread the word of this essential project and its noteworthy accomplishments.
Thank you.
